Health Insurance Campaign, Forums Aim to Educate Marylanders

Maryland residents who don’t know much about health insurance or the Affordable Care Act may be learning more due to a statewide outreach campaign. This campaign is in addition to the local series of public forums on health care currently being offered in Anne Arundel County.

The state’s health insurance marketplace, known as the Maryland Health Connection, is operated by the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange. The campaign is designed to educate residents about health plan choices and offer assistance when the healthcare marketplace opens Oct. 1 for enrollment. The campaign will feature advertising, social media and partnerships with organizations such as the 2012 Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens were selected to be partners because of their strong appeal among residents  without health insurance, according to a press release from the Maryland Health Connection. Other companies reported to be partnering with the Maryland Health Connection include grocery store chain Giant Food and CVS Pharmacy drug stores.

Earlier this summer, Maryland Health Connection launched social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

The county is in the midst of presenting a series of health care forums hosted by the Department of Health in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County Executive’s Office, the county's Department of Aging and Disabilities, and the county's Department of Social Services.
