HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Chesapeake Starts Playoff Run Friday

The Chesapeake High School basketball teams each face road games as the state basketball tournaments get underway.

Playoff basketball starts for the Chesapeake High teams this Friday, with both the girls and boys facing opening games on the road. 

The boys are seeded ninth in the Class 4A east region and will travel to eighth-seeded South River on Friday. The girls team got the 11th seed and will travel to sixth-seeded Glen Burnie.

Meanwhile, the Northeast High teams will also start postseason play at home.

The Northeast boys grabbed the fifth seed in the Class 3A bracket and will host Stephen Decatur on Friday.

The girls are the sixth seed in the Class 3A bracket and will host Centennial on Friday.

Nearly all local public school teams have qualified for the state tournament. Teams from Anne Arundel County will play in the Class 4A east region, with the exception of Northeast and Annapolis who are Class 3A.

Here’s how the draw looks for the other teams in Anne Arundel County. (See the full brackets attached to this article.)

Arundel

The boys won the Anne Arundel County championship and earned the top seed and first round bye. The Wildcats will play Feb. 28 at home against the winner of South River and Chesapeake.

The girls got a favorable draw when they grabbed the fifth seed, and will host 12th-seeded Great Mills on Friday.

Old Mill

The boys grabbed the fourth seed in the region and a first-round bye. The Patriots' first playoff game will be Feb. 28 at home against the North County and Great Mills winner.

The girls are the eighth seed in the region and will host North County on Friday.

Meade

The boys are the seventh seed in the region and will host Severna Park on Friday.

The girls are seeded fourth and earned a first-round bye. They will play at home Feb. 27 against the winner of Arundel and Great Mills.

Broadneck

The Broadneck boys will open the playoffs as the sixth seed, and will host Leonardtown on Friday.

The girls team, meanwhile, earned the third seed and a first-round bye. They will play at home Feb. 27 against the winner of Glen Burnie and Chesapeake.

Glen Burnie

The boys earned the second seed in the region. They will next play on Tuesday, Feb. 28 and will host the winner of Meade and Severna Park

The girls are the seeded sixth and will host 11th -seeded Chesapeake on Friday.

North County

The boys team is seeded fifth and will host Great Mills on Friday.

The girls are seeded ninth in the region, and will travel to play Old Mill on Friday.

Severna Park

The boys got the 10th seed in the region and will travel to play Meade on Friday.

The girls are the seventh seed and will host Leonardtown, also on Friday.

Annapolis

The boys grabbed the third seed in the Class 3A playoff bracket, and will have a bye in the first round. The team will host the winner of J.M. Bennett and Hammond in the second round Feb. 28.

The girls earned the fourth seed in the Class 3A east regional, and will also have a bye. They will host the winner of Mt. Hebron and Stephen Decatur on Feb. 27.

South River

The boys drew the eighth seed in the region, and will host Chesapeake, seeded ninth. The game will take place on Friday.

The girls team earned the second seed in the region and a first-round bye. The team will next play Feb. 27 against the winner of the game between Severna Park and Leonardtown.
