Hospice of the Chesapeake hosts screenings, discussion of PBS film, ‘Being Mortal'

Hospice of the Chesapeake will host “Being Human; Being Mortal,” a film and discussion about some of life’s most important choices, at the Annapolis Regional Library, 410 West St.

Underwritten by the John and Wauna Harman Foundation, the project uses PBS’s FRONTLINE film “Being Mortal,” based on the book of the same name by Dr. Atul Gawande, to educate audiences and encourage people to take concrete steps to identify and communicate their wishes for end-of-life care. “Being Mortal” explores what matters most to patients and families experiencing serious illness, focusing on the human feelings involved in making important medical decisions.

Sponsored by the John & Cathy Belcher Institute for Complex Illness Care at Hospice of the Chesapeake, Inc., and facilitated by healthcare professionals, the screenings are part of Courageous Conversations; the nonprofit’s efforts to encourage a national dialogue about an inescapable reality of life -- death. Choose from one of four sessions – 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29, Oct. 24 or Nov. 21, or 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19. Participants can enjoy free popcorn at each screening.
