Lauer's Supermarket & Bakery In Pasadena To Close

After 45 years, the Lauer family has decided to sell its two Lauer's Supermarket & Bakery locations in Pasadena.

PASADENA, MD — On Sept. 16, local sisters Bernadette Snoops and Babette "Babbie" Poyer stunned Anne Arundel County residents when they announced that they would be shuttering their business Lauer's Supermarket & Bakery.

The sisters took to Facebook to share the news and thank their friends, customers and employees for fueling the store's longevity.

" After 45 years, we have made the very difficult decision to end the Lauer’s tradition in Pasadena. It has been an incredible journey for the Lauer family to serve and be part of the Pasadena community. The success of Lauer’s would never have been possible without all of the employees. It has been a privilege to experience the dedication of a number of individuals that have been part of our family since 1974. We have had the pleasure to see families grow as generation after generation have walked through our doors as Lauer’s employees. Thank you to each and every person that has committed their time to the Lauer’s Supermarket mission," they posted.

Ed and Helen Lauer opened the first supermarket in 1974 on Mountain Road in Pasadena. In 1982, they acquired the Acme Supermarket in Riviera Beach then in 1988 they constructed a bigger store on Edwin Raynor Boulevard to replace the original location. Both locations will continue to operate as independent family supermarkets. The Riviera Beach location is being acquired by Geresbeck’s Food Market effective Sept. 30. The Chesterfield location will be owned and operated as a Green Valley Marketplace effective Oct. 14.

The Lauer family's history in the area has been rich and the sisters said they will miss seeing everyone.

"We will sincerely miss all the wonderful friends and customers that have been part of our lives for the past 45 years. It is hard to imagine our daily lives without you. We have thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the growth of the Pasadena community since 1974. It has been such a fulfilling experience to be part of such a wonderful community, schools, churches, businesses, community and youth organizations. Thank you for your continued support of your local family supermarkets," the sisters shared. "On behalf of the entire Lauer family, thank you to each and every one of you for your continued support and friendship."

Customer Bryan Palett told WBAL that many people, himself included, will miss Lauer's even though there still will be a grocery store in the community.

"I know most of the people who work here, and they've given me great service. It's like a little family get-together almost when I come up for my paper every day," Palett said. "It's just a nice neighborhood place to come."

"I saw it on Facebook and I was shocked and saddened," customer Kim Scott told WBAL.
