Man Impersonates Officer To Extort Money From Woman: Police

A woman engaged in prostitution in Linthicum reported a man who posed as a police officer promised not to arrest her if she paid him.

LINTHICUM, MD — A Pasadena man who impersonated a police officer elicited money from a prostitute in exchange for not arresting her, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The incident occurred Sept. 16 at a Linthicum-area hotel.

Detectives talked with a woman who reported a man identified himself as a police officer when he visited her hotel room on Saturday, Sept. 14. She said he posed as an officer and carried a police radio.

Officers tracked down the suspect and found him with a canister of pepper spray with the word “POLICE” in white letters, a stun gun with a “POLICE” sticker and a small portable radio.

Anne Arundel County officers arrested 53-year-old James Ewing Menke Jr., of Pasadena, and charged him with impersonating a police officer and extortion - less than $1,000.
