Members Sought For Youth Advisory Council In Anne Arundel County
The group will advise the county executive regarding policy matters impacting youth in Anne Arundel County.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD —Youth and young adults ages 14 to 22 are encouraged to apply for a position on the newly formed Anne Arundel County Youth Advisory Council. The plan for the new council was developed by three student interns last fall who presented their proposal formally to the county executive.
“Young people are the future, and the future matters. Across the world and right here in Anne Arundel County, they are leading the fights against climate change, gun violence, and systemic racism,” said Anne Arundel County Executive Pittman in a news release. “Earlier this week, young African American leaders in our county generated over 300 thoughtful, passionate emails requesting funding for police body cameras in the county budget. On Monday night, I hosted a virtual town hall with those leaders that left over 13,000 viewers with a sense of hope in a dark time. That is the kind of leadership we need in our county and on our Youth Advisory Council.”
The group will advise the county executive regarding policy matters impacting youth in Anne Arundel County, while learning about local government and developing valuable leadership and advocacy skills. Learn more about the Youth Advisory Council by visiting www.aacounty.org/youth-advisory. Submit applications and supporting documents to youthadvisorycouncil@aacounty.org by June 30.
