Watch As Officers Save Teen Who Jumped Into Frozen River To Rescue Friend In Anne Arundel

A teen jumped into a frozen river "in a heroic attempt to rescue his friend." Watch the video of police saving him from Anne Arundel waters.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — The Anne Arundel County Police Department said it saved a teenager stuck in icy waters after he jumped into a river to help his friend Monday afternoon.

Authorities said the call came out as two young teens who had fallen in the frozen Magothy River around 2:45 p.m.

"Officers learned that the child they rescued did not fall into the creek but jumped in, in a heroic attempt to rescue his friend," a press release said.

The first teenager made it safely to shore by the time police arrived.

The teen who tried to save his friend was still stuck in the cold water, however. Authorities said he was "submerged and clinging to a piling."

Three officers pulled the unidentified teen onto a pier and got him into an ambulance.

Police expect both teenagers to be okay.

Authorities identified the officers who helped in the water rescue as:

  • Sgt. Katie Beall
  • Cpl. Scott Bowerman
  • Private First-Class Chris Richardson
