PHOTOS: Lake Shore Baseball Opens New Season

The parade and ceremony commemorated the start of the new season along with the opening of five new fields that cost $4 million.

Lake Shore Baseball kicked off the beginning of their new season Saturday morning in style.

County Councilman Derek Fink, County Executive John R. Leopold and Director of Recreation and Parks Rick Anthony were all present at the Woods Road Sports Complex as Lake Shore Baseball unveiled five new fields—a project that totaled $4 million.

The new fields include four new baseball fields and one multipurpose field, which is lighted, and can be used for soccer, lacrosse and other activities.

“I am extremely excited,” said Fink, who played baseball with Lake Shore himself. “Lake Shore Baseball had over 790 kids that will be able to take advantage of these fields. Obviously, Lake Shore Baseball has a huge impact in our community and in our kids' lives. This is obviously a testament to what the county thinks about Lake Shore Baseball. It is absolutely beautiful up here.”

Anthony and Leopold spoke to the crowd of players and parents before Fink cut the ribbon. Then the teams paraded around the complex, officially signaling the start of a new season for Lake Shore Baseball.
