Residents Should Check Water Quality Levels Before Diving In

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will be testing water quality levels that residents should check before swimming.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD – If your Memorial Day weekend plans include enjoying time at Mayo Beach or another recreational area, swim safely by checking the water quality first before diving in. The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will be testing waters starting this weekend to determine if they meet acceptable bacteria-level standards for swimmers as determined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Maryland Department of the Environment and the county department of health.

View the swim guide at www.aahealth.org/beach and https://www.aahealth.org/recreational-water-quality-report/ from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The county department of health also reminds residents that after the area has received half an inch or more of rain, all Anne Arundel County beaches are placed under a no swimming/no direct water contact advisory for at least 48 hours due to predicted elevated bacteria levels from rainwater runoff and increased health risks.
