Social Distancing Easter Egg Hunt Entertains Anne Arundel Kids
"On a beautiful sunny day in Crofton, for a little while, we let our kids be kids."
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Families faced with a stay-at-home executive order in Maryland are missing engaging in their favorite holiday traditions. One Crofton neighborhood came up with a fun idea that abides by social distancing measures and still brought a smile to the kids' faces.
Mom Erica Dorfmeister-Chandler told Patch that she created a private Facebook page for neighbors to help them stay connected during the new coronavirus pandemic. It's evolved into a way to support each other and share clever ideas to pass the time.
"Our neighbors did a teddy bear hunt for the kids, an adult only beer hunt and an amazing social distancing egg hunt for the kids," Dorfmeister-Chandler told Patch.

The adults hid eggs that were located at least six feet from each other. A friendly stuffed tiger kick-started the Easter egg hunt and provided directions to the eager kids. The kids took turns finding the eggs, making sure to stay six feet away from each other. Each family then posted a picture on the Facebook page detailing how many eggs their kids found. The kids who found the most eggs were entered into a drawing to win gift cards to a local restaurant.

"Neighbors with young kids, without kids and with adult kids hid eggs and contributed to the prize purchases. On a beautiful sunny day in Crofton, for a little while, we let our kids be kids, and allowed ourselves to let go and be grateful for the community we live in," said Dorfmeister-Chandler.
