4,000 In Maryland Have Died From Coronavirus: Governor Hogan
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has called for a moment of silence Saturday to remember the 4,000 who died from the virus.

MARYLAND — Gov. Larry Hogan has called for a moment of silence Saturday as the state marks a mournful milestone in the coronavirus pandemic.
"As of this morning, 4,000 Marylanders have lost their lives to COVID-19," Hogan said in a statement Saturday. "On behalf of our entire state, we send our prayers and heartfelt condolences to all of their families and loved ones."
Said Hogan: "I ask all Marylanders to join me in a moment of silence for all those we have lost to this deadly virus."

In the past day, the Maryland Department of Health reports 10 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
In recent months, the death rate has slowed in Maryland. The first 3,000 COVID-19 deaths were reported at a pace of roughly 1,000 deaths a month. The most recent 1,000 deaths occurred over a period of more than four months — since June 25.

- The first coronavirus-related deaths in the state were reported March 18.
- By April 30, the state had seen 1,000 deaths from COVID-19.
- On May 20, Maryland reported more than 2,000 had died from COVID-19.
- As of June 25, Maryland reported over 3,000 COVID-19 deaths.
"While our statewide health metrics continue to be below the nation and most other states, this tragic milestone is a sobering reminder that this crisis is by no means over," Hogan said Saturday. "As we continue to closely monitor upticks in some of our key numbers, every single one of us must remain cautious and vigilant in the days ahead."
For the third day in a row, Maryland health officials said more than 900 cases of the coronavirus had been confirmed. As of Saturday, the state added 967 cases of the virus to its tally, on top of 927 Friday and 962 Thursday.
To prevent the spread of the virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends keeping 6 feet of distance between from others; wearing a face mask when interacting with those outside one's household; and washing hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or with hand sanitizer that is at least 60 percent alcohol after being in a public place.
