Amazon Job Fair In Baltimore To Offer On-the-Spot Hiring

BALTIMORE, MD - Amazon is going on a hiring spree. The business is hosting job fairs across the country, including in Baltimore, to fill what it says are 50,000 open positions nationwide.

Available jobs include full and part-time work from picking, packing and shipping items at fulfillment centers to human resources and IT, according to an announcement about the "nation's largest job fair."

On Aug. 2, Amazon will welcome candidates for tours and to apply for jobs with the possibility of instant hiring.

"...come learn more about the technology we utilize in our operations, see our dedicated onsite classrooms, meet employees and, if interested, apply for a job at our site and receive an on-the-spot job offer," Vice President of Amazon’s Worldwide Operations Human Resources John Olsen said in the Amazon jobs day announcement.

"These are great opportunities with runway for advancement," Olsen said. "In fact, of our entry-level managers across Amazon’s U.S. fulfillment centers, nearly 15 percent started in hourly roles and were promoted into their current positions.”

Approximately 10,000 of the open 50,000 positions are part-time, according to the statement from Amazon. See open positions in Baltimore.

Amazon offers up to 20 weeks of paid leave; a leave program for growing families; 401(k) with company match; disability insurance; company stock; and continuing education. Health insurance starts on day one for full-time employees and after 90 days for part-time employees.

Those attending the job fair should bring identification and be at least 18 years old. Be advised, the facility has a dress code that job fair-goers must follow for safety purposes:

• Wear closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes.
• No protruding jewelry or chains/drawstrings dangling from clothing that may get caught in machinery.
• Secure hair so it stays above the shoulder, and tie or net beards more than 3 inches long.

The Baltimore job fair will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Amazon's facility at 2010 Broening Highway, Baltimore, MD 21224.

The "Amazon Jobs Day" with job fairs and on-the-spot-hiring will be taking place at fulfillment centers in Baltimore, Maryland; Romeoville, Illinois; Whitestown, Indiana; Hebron, Kentucky; Fall River, Massachusetts; Robbinsville, New Jersey; Etna, Ohio; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Kent, Washington; and Kenosha, Wisconsin. Off-site job fairs will also be held in Buffalo, New York, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
