Baltimore Protests: Several Arrested Overnight, Police Said

Police said damage to businesses was reported in Baltimore, and officials had made multiple arrests.

BALTIMORE, MD — Multiple people were arrested after damaging businesses overnight in Baltimore, police said. The arrests came after hours of peaceful protests in the city Saturday took a turn after nightfall.

Demonstrations began around 3 p.m., with drivers, cyclists and pedestrians carrying signs that said things like "Black lives matter" and chanting: "No justice, no peace," in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Baltimore Mayor Jack Young encouraged all to go home who were out, stating that there were "a few agitators taking advantage of peaceful protesters."
