Baltimore Victim Identified In Fiery Crash With Hotel Shuttle Van

Anne Arundel County Police say a Baltimore driver died in a fiery crash with a hotel shuttle van in Linthicum Heights last week.

LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD — Anne Arundel County Police on Wednesday released the name of a driver who crashed into a hotel shuttle van in Linthicum Heights and died inside his burning car. The driver killed is Damien Robert Saunders, 36, of the 800 block of West Lexington Street in Baltimore.

The fatal accident happened about 2 a.m. Dec. 9 on West Nursery Road near Elkridge Landing Road in Linthicum Heights. Police say Saunders' 2014 Nissan Altima was southbound on West Nursery Road when it swerved to the right and struck a LaQuinta Hotel shuttle bus parked on the shoulder. Both vehicles caught fire and Saunders was found inside his vehicle by Fire Department personnel.

There were no other occupants of either vehicle. Saunders was declared dead at the scene and his body was taken by the medical examiner to Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police say the primary cause of the crash was Saunders' failure to remain in a single lane. It is unclear if
alcohol was a contributing factor; police say the investigation continues.
