Baltimore's Classic Five to Host Annual Baltimore Golf Week

Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation (BMGC), the nation’s first nonprofit organization dedicated to the management and operation of municipal golf courses, today announced it will host the second annual Baltimore Golf Week, a one-week celebration of golf in Baltimore.

From June 3 to 9, Baltimore City golf courses hold events to celebrate golf and raise funds for YouthWorks, Baltimore City’s summer jobs program providing employment to thousands of youth and young adults. Events include a $1 million-dollar hole-in-one contest at the Pine Ridge Golf Course Driving Range, a $50,000 hole-in-one contest at the Forest Park Driving Range, and more. Baltimore Golf Week will culminate with a tournament on June 9 at Forest Park Golf Course to determine the winner of the Mayor’s Cup.

“We are thrilled to host Baltimore Golf Week again this year to benefit YouthWorks,” said BMGC’s Executive Director Jon Ladd. “Baltimore Golf Week will help get Baltimore City excited about golf, as well as raise funds and awareness for the City’s summer jobs program for youth.”

Classic Five Golf will host a series events during Baltimore Golf Week. Proceeds from all the events will go toward YouthWorks. Baltimore Golf Week events include:

• $50,000 Hole-In-One Contest at Forest Park Golf Course (June 3-8)
  • Qualifiers (June 3-7) – A 15-foot circle approximately 75 yards away from the driving stations will be set up at the Forest Park Driving Range. For a fee of $5 for one shot or $20 for five shots, golfers can attempt to hit a golf ball that stays on the temporary green. All golfers that are able to do this qualify for the finals of the $50,000 hole-in-one contest. This is open to amateur golfers only.
  • Finals (June 8) – A hole that is 135 yards away from the driving stations will be set up on one of the Forest Park Driving Range greens. All golfers that qualified for the finals will be able to take one shot at a hole-in-one and the $50,000.
• $1 Million Hole-In-One Contest (June 3-8)
  • Qualifiers (June 3-7) - A 15-foot circle approximately 75 yards away from the driving stations will be set up at the Pine Ridge Driving Range. For a fee of $5 for one shot or $20 for five shots, golfers can attempt to hit a golf ball that stays on the temporary green. All golfers that are able to do this qualify for the finals of the million-dollar hole-in-one contest.
  • Finals (June 8) - A temporary green and hole that is 165 yards away from the driving stations will be set up. All golfers that qualified for the finals will be able to take one shot at a hole-in-one and the million dollars. This is open to only amateur golfers.
• Mayor’s Cup (June 9)
  • At Forest Park Golf Course, the Mayor’s Cup golf outing will be held. All sponsors of Baltimore Golf Week will be provided a foursome to play in the Mayor’s Cup. A select number of foursomes will be made available for purchase by non-sponsors. The foursome with the lowest score will be awarded the Mayor’s Cup.
  • The schedule for the Mayor’s Cup events:
    • 7:00AM – Player registration, breakfast, and player warm-up
    • 8:30AM – Shotgun start-18-Hole Scramble format
    • 1:00PM – Lunch
    • 2:00PM – Awards Ceremony and check presentation of funds raised during Baltimore Golf Week
• Other Baltimore Golf Week Events
  • During Baltimore Golf Week, golfers will be entered to win a complimentary foursome at all Classic Five Golf courses each time they purchase a greens fee. A drawing will be conducted at each golf course at the end of Baltimore Golf Week to determine the winners.

YouthWorks is Baltimore City’s summer jobs program for residents between the ages of 14 and 21. Each year through YouthWorks, the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED) connects thousands of teens and young adults to meaningful summer work experiences throughout the city. Participants work in a wide variety of industries, including health care and social assistance, hospitality/tourism, finance, construction, the arts, and environmental/green jobs. YouthWorks is operated by the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, with the assistance of employers and workforce partners, and with financial support from a variety of contributors.
