August 5, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting the Preakness Stakes '27 is getting a new Think Big Idea.
Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) the engine behind the Kentucky Derby and NYRA, New York Racing Association made a bold and brazen move Monday when they announced their new venture for 2027, the "Thoroughbred Racing Series". The 6-race, 5-month series of horse races would not include the Preakness Stakes. The Triple Crown as we know it will be no longer.
The "Charm'tastic Mile" is proposing that the Preakness Stakes becomes an Independent Race-In Tournament for 3-year old's. The 2nd leg now becomes a 3-race, first race 12-13 horses, second race 12-13 horses, the top 6 finishers from each race and a wild-card horse will form the 3rd race, that's 13 horses for the finale, The Preakness: Race-In Tournament Championship Cup. The Race-In Tournament Cup becomes a USPTO www.uspto.gov extension brand of The Preakness.
This gives Baltimore & the DMV its own exclusive racing series for 2-months during the 5-months of TRS. The Preakness Stakes now has to become its own brand, but still has the "Triple Crown" 151-year old link as a foundation to its new racing series.
With 3 Independent races over the 7-8 weeks, TV (NBC retains rights to Preakness) and sponsorships would be for all 3-races in the package. The 2-month season allows for more targeted events around the newly constructed Pimlico venue. Hotel rooms and airplane flights can also be looped into packages for all 3 races. Restaurants will benefit as well from more potential patrons visiting downtown and the Baltimore-area.
The "Charm'tastic Mile" believes a concept of this nature will be able to eventually blend-in with the "Thoroughbred Racing Series" and form a merger like the AFL/NFL & ABA/NBA of the 1970's.
