Coronavirus Patients At MD Hospitals, ICUs Double Since Nov. 1
Gov. Larry Hogan is expected to address the state Tuesday as coronavirus hospitalizations and new cases climb.

MARYLAND — The number of coronavirus patients being treated in Maryland hospitals and intensive care units has doubled since Nov. 1, based on state health data released Tuesday.
At the same time, the state is seeing a surge in new coronavirus cases, and Gov. Larry Hogan is expected to address Marylanders Tuesday afternoon about the situation.
Officials say 1,046 patients in Maryland are hospitalized with the virus Tuesday, the first time coronavirus-related hospitalizations have climbed above 1,000 since June in the state.

On Nov. 1, there were 523 patients in Maryland hospitals being treated for the virus, meaning the number of patients has exactly doubled in a little more than two weeks.
As of Tuesday, 255 patients are in the intensive care unit and 791 are in acute care, compared with 127 patients in the ICU and 396 in acute care on Nov. 1, Maryland health data shows.

While hospitalizations climb, the number of new cases of the virus is also surging.
For the second time this week, Maryland health officials have added more than 2,000 cases of the coronavirus to the state's daily tally.
The Maryland Department of Health reported Tuesday 2,149 positive test results were confirmed in the past 24 hours.
This is the second-highest daily increase the state has seen. The highest was Saturday when 2,321 new infections were confirmed.

The governor is expected to address the state at a 2 p.m. news conference with information about additional actions to fight the surge. Watch on his Twitter, Facebook or YouTube accounts.

On Nov. 11, Hogan restricted capacity at restaurants from 75 to 50 percent in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.
Officials advised against indoor gatherings of more than 25 and travel to certain states.
Several jurisdictions have added further restrictions in the past week, such as Baltimore City closing bars that do not serve food and Prince George's County requiring masks anytime people leave home and are not practicing vigorous exercise.
