Police Officer Shot, Suspect Killed In Barricade Situation In NW Baltimore

A man held a gun to a family member's head before shooting a police officer Tuesday in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue, police said.

BALTIMORE, MD — A police officer was shot during what authorities called a barricade situation in Northwest Baltimore on Tuesday. A suspect was also shot and died at the scene, police said.

According to Baltimore police, the incident occurred in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue shortly before noon when police received a report of a burglary.

At a news conference, Police Commissioner Richard Worley said a suspect immediately fired at officers when they arrived at the house. A female victim who jumped out of a window while attempting to flee was also hurt and taken to a hospital.

The suspect appeared in a window with a gun to the head of a second person, who was described as a family member, Worley said. A police sniper fatally shot the suspect, who has not yet been identified.

The Maryland attorney general's office has been notified to investigate.

Dr. Thomas Scalea said an officer was admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg. Another officer put a tourniquet on the leg at the scene.

The officer was taken to Shock Trauma Center for treatment.

In a statement on X, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said the officer was shot while responding to a barricade situation.

"The brave men and women of BPD put their lives on the line every day to build a better, safer Baltimore," Scott wrote. "As the situation develops, our hearts are with this officer, their family, and the entire department."

Along Park Heights Avenue, the Sheffield House, Knightbridge Apartments and Park Heights Apartments down to the residential homes were either blocked by police cars or yellow tape on Tuesday, The Baltimore Banner reported.

Police are asking the public to avoid the surrounding areas as multiple streets are closed and officers remain on scene
