Suicidal Woman Saved In Fort McHenry Tunnel: Police

BREAKING: Police used stop sticks, Tasers in the I-95 tunnel in Baltimore before the driver was taken to the hospital.

BALTIMORE, MD - Authorities said they helped stop a suicidal driver Thursday afternoon in the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore.

The New Jersey woman, who had been reported missing, told her brother that she was near the Chesapeake House in Cecil County.

When police were notified to be on the lookout after 1:30 p.m., she was driving south on Interstate 95 toward Baltimore.

Officials said they caught up with the 63-year-old woman inside the Fort McHenry Tunnel - after the Maryland Transportation Authority Police used stop sticks since she would not pull over for state troopers.

She got out of her vehicle in the tunnel holding two knives and used one to cut her wrist before transportation authority police deployed their Tasers to subdue her and take her into custody, according to officials.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment, Maryland State Police reported.

Two lanes were closed on I-95 south at the tunnel during the response, according to police.

The lane closures were in effect from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority reported.
