Trump Visit Moves From Baltimore To White House: Report

Baltimore leaders will reportedly travel to the White House instead of having President Donald Trump come to them.

BALTIMORE, MD — President Donald Trump will reportedly not travel to Baltimore as previously planned. Instead, he will meet with Baltimore leaders at the White House, according to WBAL.

The meeting — which had been set for Wednesday, Dec. 12 — was to discuss how Baltimore could leverage a federal program that gives investors tax breaks for putting money toward economic revitalization in "opportunity zones," which are economically distressed communities.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, a Democrat from Baltimore, told WBAL that the meeting would not be held in East Baltimore as originally planned and would instead take place in Washington, D.C., which the White House reportedly confirmed.

Trump's spokesman told The Baltimore Sun that POTUS plans to visit Charm City in the new year and that the change for this week was made because of scheduling issues connected to Chief of Staff John Kelly leaving.

Rev. Donte L. Hickman, pastor of Southern Baptist Church on North Chester Street, reportedly said he invited Trump to the city to discuss securing public funds for revitalizing impoverished communities.

Hickman posted this on Facebook Monday, Dec. 10: "I remain very optimistic about what is possible for Baltimore. No weapon formed against us shall be able to prosper."
