President Trump Coming To Baltimore

The President of the United States will be in Baltimore this week to discuss investment in distressed communities.

BALTIMORE, MD — President Donald Trump is reportedly planning a visit to Baltimore this week. The appearance is part of a push to promote investment in distressed communities.

Trump appeared in Baltimore in December 2016 at M&T Bank Stadium for the Army-Navy game, which for 2018 was Dec. 8 in Philadelphia. Trump also visited Baltimore for the National Guard conference in September 2016 while he was on the campaign trail.

Rev. Donte L. Hickman, pastor of Southern Baptist Church on North Chester Street, invited Trump to the city to discuss securing public funds for revitalizing "opportunity zones," which are distressed communities identified under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, WBAL reported.

The federal program gives investors tax breaks for putting money toward economic revitalization in these neighborhoods.

Hickman said he hopes to "attract all of the investment to Baltimore first, and let Baltimore be the model and the lead for urban centers across America," according to WBAL.
