Mayor Gives 'The Voice' Finalist Davon Fleming Key To City

The Baltimore finalist on NBC's "The Voice" returned home to a surprise.

BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore's singing sensation received a grand welcome at BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport. "The Voice" finalist Davon Fleming, who was eliminated from NBC's show this week, was greeted by Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh as well as a marching band and a host of fans as he arrived home Wednesday night in Baltimore.

"We are really on the rise," Fleming said of his home city. "You don't have to be a product of your environment. You can go out there and follow your dreams..."

Fleming, 25, who works as a worship leader, said he wanted to use the opportunity to sing on national TV as a way to inspire people and demonstrate his faith.

On Wednesday night, he was offered another opportunity to lead; the mayor invited Fleming to be the grand marshal of the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and gave him the honorary key to the city. The parade will be Jan. 15, 2018.
