VP Mike Pence To Deliver RNC Address In Baltimore: Report

The vice president is reportedly planning to use Fort McHenry as the backdrop for his Republican National Convention speech.

BALTIMORE, MD — U. S. Vice President Mike Pence is reportedly slated to speak at Fort McHenry during the Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Convention is planned for Monday, Aug. 24, in Charlotte, with speakers sharing from remote locations as well.

The event will run through Thursday, Aug. 27, with the theme the "Great American Story."

Each night has a different angle in accordance with the theme, according to CNBC:

  • "Land of Promise" on Monday featuring delegates in Charlotte
  • "Land of Opportunity" Tuesday featuring First Lady Melania Trump
  • "Land of Heroes" Wednesday with Pence
  • "Land of Greatness" Thursday with President Donald Trump

Pence will deliver an address Wednesday during the convention's "Land of Heroes" night, The Baltimore Sun reported, and other speakers will include Iowa and South Carolina lawmakers, a Kentucky student and a couple in St. Louis.

Wednesday's appearance will mark the third time in 15 months that Pence has made an official visit to Baltimore.

Last September, he spoke at the GOP retreat at the Marriott Waterfront, and in May 2019 he presented a Secret Service award and toured the Baltimore ICE office.

Production equipment for Pence's appearance arrived Friday, according to WBAL.

Fort McHenry is open to the public but its visitor center, restrooms and Star Fort have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It has not hosted public events.
