Status Change From Baltimore City Public Schools Issued Tuesday

BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore City Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 12. This is the second day in a row that city schools will be closed due to weather.

All after-school activities are canceled in Baltimore schools, officials said.

The closure, announced around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, came three hours after the school system gave notice that schools would be delayed Tuesday morning.

Although schools will be closed, school offices will open two hours late, according to Baltimore City Public Schools. Staff should check their City Schools email for reporting information.

In making the decision to close, school officials cited inclement weather and possibly icy conditions.

About an inch of snow fell in Baltimore on Monday, based on preliminary reports to the National Weather Service. Baltimore City Public Schools were closed on Monday.

PREVIOUS REPORT (expired as of 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12): Baltimore City Public Schools and offices will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Feb. 12. School officials made the announcement around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Half-day early learning programs are canceled, officials said.

Frederick Douglass High School will be closed on Tuesday for students so that staff can plan for the return of students after last Friday's shooting, according to authorities.

Essential employees should report on time, Baltimore City Public Schools advised.

Baltimore is under a winter weather advisory until 7 a.m. on Tuesday for freezing rain and sleet. People should anticipate slippery roads.
