2 Charged With Murder In Edgewood Man's Death

A little more than a month after a man was killed in Harford County, officials say two men were arrested out of state.

BEL AIR, MD — Two men have been charged in connection with the death of an Edgewood man who was shot May 30 in Harford County. Authorities said both were taken into custody out of state and are awaiting extradition Wednesday afternoon.

Diantae Williams, 22, and Shamel Ferebee, 20, are charged with first and second-degree murder and related offenses, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Williams was arrested Tuesday in Newport, Rhode Island, officials said. Members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force took him into custody based on information from the Harford County Sheriff's Office warrant apprehension unit, according to authorities.

Ferebee was arrested in Greenville, N.C., after he did not use a turn signal on Wednesday, July 1, and was stopped by an officer for the traffic violation, police said.

Warrants were issued for the arrest of Williams and Ferebee on June 11 related to the death of Christopher Markquell Smith, 22. Authorities said Smith was shot multiple times in the upper body in the 600 block of Edgewood Road May 30 and was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

“These arrests are a testament to what can happen when law enforcement and the community work together to solve crimes," Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey R. Gahler said, thanking the U.S. Marshals, Maryland State Police warrant apprehension unit and Rhode Island State Police for their work. "Their help, along with information and support from our community, has ensured that two murderers will have their day in court.”
