Bel Air 4th Of July Parade, Fireworks: 2019 Events Schedule

BEL AIR, MD — July 4th is here, and the Bel Air Independence Day Committee proved that there would be no raining on its parade. Rain or shine, the parade was to continue, in a festive tradition that brought families and friends out to Main Street.

"The parade is still on for 6 p.m. tonight," the Bel Air Independence Day Committee posted on its Facebook page Thursday, July 4, after receiving a 3:30 p.m. briefing from Parade Director Michael Blum.

Road closures started at 4:30 p.m. to prepare for the parade, including Route 924 at Macphail Road, where staging is occurring. More closures took effect at 5:30 p.m., on Main Street from Idlewild to Broadway.

Starting at 6 p.m., the parade route began from South Main Street at Idlewild to North Main Street at East Gordon Street.

  • 4:30 p.m. — Road closures in downtown Bel Air begin
  • 6 p.m. — Parade runs from Main Street at Idlewild to Main at Gordon
  • 8:15 p.m. — Road closures take effect around fireworks
  • 9:30 p.m. — Fireworks go off in Rockfield Park on Churchville Road

Fireworks Road Closures

Road closures around Route 22 will begin at 8:15 p.m. and remain in effect until the conclusion of the fireworks show: Shamrock Road at Route 22; Lee Way at Route 22; Hickory Avenue at Route 22; Fulford Avenue at Maitland Street; Fulford Avenue at Route 924/Main Street; and Bynum Run Park at 715 Churchville Road.

Around 9:30 p.m., the fireworks will go off at Rockfield Park, 501 East Churchville Road.

If the parade is canceled due to weather, it will not be rescheduled. The Bel Air Independence Day Committee will post information about the status on its Facebook page and share it with WXCY 103.7 and WAMD 970.

Full Event Schedule For July 4 In Bel Air

Festivities started at 6:30 a.m. with a flag ceremony at Bel Air High School and will cap off with a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show over Rockfield Park. The 2019 theme is "Our Home Town."

Here's what's in store this July 4th in Bel Air:

  • 6:45 a.m. Flag raising in front of Bel Air High School, featuring Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 30; American Legion Post #39; bugler Robert Hudson; and Miss Bel Air 2019 Kelsey Scott
  • 7–11 a.m. Blueberry/chocolate pancake and sausage breakfast at Bel Air High School run by the Bel Air High School Boosters; $8 for adults, $5 for kids under 10.
  • 8 a.m. Flag raising at Rockfield Park
  • 8:30 a.m. Horseshoe pitching at Rockfield Park (registration at 8 a.m.)
  • 8:45 a.m. Flag raising at Shamrock Park featuring Miss Bel Air 2019 Kelsey Scott
  • 9 a.m. Water balloon toss at Shamrock Park
  • 9 a.m. to noon Tours and patriotic children's games at Hays House, plus period music and country dance tunes from Catherine Street Consort with recorders, guitar and percussion.
  • 10 a.m. Costume contest at Shamrock Park
  • 11 a.m. Uncle Sam Says at Shamrock Park
  • 10:45 a.m. Flag raising at Bel Air Elementary School
  • 11 a.m. Bicycle registration and rodeo at Bel Air Elementary School on Lee Street lot. Trophies will be given for best decorated bike (boys and girls) with awards by age group: 5 and under; 6-8; 9-10; and 11-13.
  • 11:30 a.m. Watermelon eating contest at Shamrock Park
  • 4:30–6 p.m. Parade staging on South Main Street at Macphail Road, by the entrance to Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School
  • 6 p.m. Parade down Main Street, starting at Idlewild and South Main Street and proceeding to the intersection of East Gordon Street at North Main Street
  • 9:30 p.m. Fireworks at Rockfield Park; they can be viewed from various points around the town of Bel Air.
