Harford Correctional Recruit Charged With Sex Offenses: Sheriff
A Harford County correctional recruit has been terminated from the training academy after he was charged with sex offenses, authorities say.

BEL AIR, MD — A recruit with the Harford County Sheriff's Office has been terminated after he was arrested on Wednesday related to child sex abuse allegations, officials say. The Bel Air man was charged with sex offenses following an investigation by the Child Advocacy Center, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities said that a mugshot was not available.
Deputy Recruit Nicholas Paul Carini, 20, of the 100 block of South Main Street in Bel Air, has been charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree assault and fourth-degree sex offense. The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 20, according to court records.
The Harford County Child Advocacy Center conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Carini, according to the sheriff's office, which did not provide information around the circumstances.

After Carini was arrested and taken to the Harford County Detention Center Wednesday for processing, he appeared before the district court commissioner and was released on his own recognizance, authorities reported.
Carini was part of entry-level corrections class 28, which is currently underway at the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy, officials said.

He was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 3, and has been terminated, the sheriff's office said.
"The Harford County Sheriff’s Office holds its employees to the highest standards and will thoroughly investigate all allegations of misconduct, remaining vigilant to ensure our efforts are professional and meet the high standards the public has come to expect from our deputies," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The acts alleged are not reflective of the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Harford County Sheriff's Office."
