Bel Air Firefighters Find Flooding at Harford Day School

It was the second time Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded to school on Moores Mill Road in as many days.

Bel Air firefighters dispatched after a fire alarm went off at Harford Day School Monday afternoon found flooding outside the school at 715 Moores Mill Road, according to officials.

A broken sprinkler pipe was flooding the field house, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Firefighters were also called to the school for a fire alarm on Sunday, Feb. 15, according to Gardiner, who said it not immediately available what triggered the alarm.

The school was closed Monday due to Presidents Day but administrators provided an update on Harford Day School’s Facebook page Monday afternoon explaining the situation.

“Due to the cold temperatures, a pipe burst outside of the field house this afternoon,” according a statement the school issued at approximately 4:30 p.m. “The water is off, and the situation is under control. Many thanks to our Director of Facilities Gary Miller.”

In Bel Air temperatures were below freezing Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.

With the recent cold spell, officials said the issue of broken pipes was becoming widespread.

“Broken pipes, all from this severe weather, are happening all over Harford County as well as the entire region,” Gardiner said.
