Darlington Apple Festival is Canceled
The festival organizers cited torrential rain, forecast in decision.

The Darlington Apple Festival has been canceled for 2015, organizers announced Friday morning.
The festival was to take place on Saturday, Oct. 3.
“We are sad to announce that due to the torrential rains received over this past week, and the forecast of additional precipitation, the 2015 Darlington Apple Festival has been cancelled,” the organization posted on the Darlington Apple Festival website Friday.

The region is bracing for potential flooding as a storm system moves through the area with rain expected to continue through Sunday.
“...the threat of flash flooding is a possibility,” Harford County Emergency Manager Rick Ayers said.

Fallen power lines, downed trees and power outages are possible, along with 30 mph winds, as a storm system soaks Maryland ahead of Hurricane Joaquin, which may arrive offshore in the mid-Atlantic by Monday.
By noon on Friday, Darlington had received 0.75 inch of rain, with no sign of precipitation letting up.
Several outdoor events have been canceled or postponed, including First Fridays in Bel Air and Havre de Grace plus the Concord Point Lighthouse breast cancer awareness illumination ceremony.
Darlington Apple Festival organizers say they will be in touch with vendors about refunds.
Annually, the apple festival draws dozens of vendors and large crowds to Darlington for a celebration of autumn that includes apples, music, crafts and family friendly entertainment.
It is usually billed as ”rain or shine,” but organizers said the apple festival was no match for this weekend’s weather.
“We apologize for the inconvenience,” organizers said, “and look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016.”
