4 Cats Lost In Harford Blaze; Firefighter Injured: Fire Marshal

BEL AIR, MD — A fire on Nova Scotia Road destroyed a mobile home Tuesday and claimed the lives of four cats, according to officials. Authorities said a firefighter was also hospitalized.

Crews were called to the 3100 block of Nova Scotia Road before 11:20 a.m. when a passerby discovered the blaze, according to the fire marshal.

The residence was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, the Abingdon Fire Company reported.

About 40 firefighters responded and helped bring the fire under control within 20 minutes, officials said. A member of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company suffered a minor injury and was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was expected to be treated and released.

Investigators determined the fire began inside the mobile home; however, a specific area of origin and cause have not yet been identified.

There was $100,000 in damage — officials estimated there was $50,000 in structural damage, while $50,000 worth of items inside were lost.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, according to authorities.

Four cats that were inside perished in the blaze, according to the fire marshal.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
