Vacant House Fire Under Investigation In Edgewood
The house fire on Willoughby Beach Road took nearly half an hour to control, officials said.
EDGEWOOD, MD — Crews battled a house fire in Edgewood Tuesday night. According to the fire marshal, the property was vacant.
Crews were dispatched to the fire at the single-family home in the 2200 block of Willoughby Beach Road before 8 p.m., officials said.
A passerby alerted authorities at 7:46 p.m., according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The property was the estate of Kathleen C. Hornbarger.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire showing, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
The Abingdon Fire Company led firefighters in bringing the one-alarm blaze under control within 20 minutes, Gardiner said.

Joppa-Magnolia, which was among the fire companies assisting Abingdon, reported that Willoughby Beach Road was closed during the operation.
As a result of the blaze, there was $50,000 in structural damage, according to the fire marshal.
Officials said that the cause and origin of the blaze remained under investigation Tuesday night.
