Fish Aquarium Issue Sparked Forest Hill Condo Blaze: Fire Marshal

A fire in a Forest Hill residence was ruled accidental.

FOREST HILL, MD — The fire marshal has ruled the blaze that broke out at a Forest Hill condo early Friday morning an accident. The fire caused $15,000 in damage, according to authorities.

At 12:43 a.m., officials said the residents in the 1700 block of Rich Way discovered the fire in the bathroom at their three-story condo.

Fire and smoke alarms went off at the property, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded and found sprinklers had extinguished the blaze, officials said.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical fault with a fish aquarium operating at the time.

Officials estimated there was $10,000 in structural damage, while $5,000 worth of items inside the condo were lost as well. The fire marshal said there were no injuries as a result of the blaze.

Another fire this week in the region was attributed to a pet-related appliance. Fire broke out at a house in Essex Tuesday night that was traced to a warming lamp for a lizard that fell over, according to officials in Baltimore County.
