Stolen Flag Returned to Bel Air Home

Police said the owner was reunited with sentimental object on Lee Way.

After a flag was stolen from a home in Bel Air earlier this month, police say it has been returned.

At 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, the flag was snatched up from a home on Lee Way, the Bel Air Police Department reported.

On Monday police said that the flag was back.

The flag had sentimental value to the woman who owned it; her father reportedly gave it to her before he died.

Last Thursday night, someone drove past the home and tossed a plastic bag with an American flag inside onto the front yard, according to Det. Sgt. Jim Lockard of the Bel Air Police Department.

“This was not the correct flag,” Lockard said.

The victim’s boyfriend shared on social media that the wrong flag had been returned, and within a matter of hours, the missing flag was home, according to ABC 2 News.

Lockard said that video showed a car driving by the home between Friday night and Saturday morning. He noted that something—later found to be the flag in a plastic bag—was thrown out the window.

“We want to thank everyone for their support and efforts that [led] to the return of the flag,” the Bel Air Police Department reported Monday.

The flag that was first returned, which did not belong to the victim, is at the Bel Air Police Department. It may be claimed if the owners can verify it is theirs. Contact police at 410-638-4500.
