Forest Hill Cheerleaders Remember Coach at Vigil
Community mourns loss of 21-year-old who died from crash on Interstate 95 near Joppa.
FOREST HILL, MD - Children who normally assemble for cheer instead wept together Thursday night, after a crash ended the life of their beloved cheer coach.
Bryanna “Bry” Ey, 21, had been driving her Honda Accord north on I-95 when, just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, police said she abruptly changed lanes and was hit by a tractor trailer. Her vehicle spun out of control, hitting a jersey wall and the side of a truck, Maryland State Police reported.
Ey was airlifted to shock trauma, where officials said she was declared deceased Thursday morning.
The 21-year-old was studying nursing at Towson University and also worked at Lunar Allstars in Forest Hill, teaching children cheer and dance.
“We had a team in here that was her team. We were wondering where she was, and we were calling anyone and everyone to find out what was going on,” Lunar Allstars co-owner Tracy Unkart told ABC 2 News. “Once we heard it was her, it was almost just a state of disbelief. And when we had to tell the kids, they were just devastated, absolutely heartbroken.”
Unkart described Ey as “motivating” and said: “...kids wanted to work for her,” in an interview with WJZ.
The Forest Hill studio held a candlelight vigil Thursday night to remember Ey. The 7 p.m. Lunar Allstars gathering was followed by an 8 p.m. vigil open to the public.
Sobs and shock rippled through the crowd.
There will also be a celebration of life in remembrance of Bryanna Ey at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, at Gray Manor Park, 7607 Parkwood Drive, Dundalk.
