300 Without Power In HarCo: The Latest On Tropical Storm Isaias

Harford County has reopened most roads in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Thousands have had their power restored in Harford County after Tropical Storm Isaias brushed by Maryland. BGE reported more than 3,000 customers in the county were without power at one point Tuesday after the storm blew through.

BGE reported 324 customers were experiencing outages as of Wednesday morning in Harford County.

By 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Harford County had 787 BGE outages and 16 Delmarva Power customers experiencing outages too.

Multiple roads in Harford County were closed after several inches of rain fell Tuesday morning. All had reopened except one in Abingdon; MD 7/Philadelphia Road remains blocked at Four Seasons Drive.

PREVIOUS REPORT — Harford County activated its emergency operations center Tuesday as Tropical Storm Isaias churned along the Maryland coast, prompting multiple weather alerts around the region. Several road closures were reported, and power was knocked out for thousands of Harford County residents.

Harford County is under a flood warning until 5 p.m. after radar showed Otter Point Creek was above flood stage Tuesday afternoon following heavy morning rainfall.

More than 3,300 BGE customers were without power in Harford County as of 11:55 a.m. Delmarva Power reported 84 outages at noon.

Emergency Manager Rick Ayers urged people not to drive through high water.

"Turn around for your safety," Ayers said.

"Harford County can also anticipate wind gusts up to 50 mph during the day, and a tornado threat is also a possibility," Ayers said. "The county will most likely encounter some power outages from the storm. If possible, make sure to charge your cell phones now...before losing power."

Harford County was under a flash flood warning and tropical storm warning due to the rain and winds associated with Tropical Storm Isaias.

Up to 2 inches of rain had fallen in the county by 9 a.m., with more on the way, according to the flash flood warning, which remained in effect until 1 p.m.

In Abingdon, MD 7/Philadelphia Road was closed at Four Seasons Drive due to high water.

Perryman Road was closed at Clubhouse Road due to high water, the Maryland State Highway Administration reported after noon.

In Havre de Grace, Juniata Street and Revolution Street are also closed.

Some roads are closed in Aberdeen due to high water.

At 11 a.m., Tropical Storm Isaias was about 20 miles south-southwest of Fredericktown in Cecil County, Maryland, according to the National Hurricane Center. It was packing sustained winds of 70 mph and moving north-northeast at 35 mph.

Its impacts are expected to continue, with coastal flooding possible around the Chesapeake Bay, until Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The storm is expected to accelerate as it moves up the mid-Atlantic coast before weakening as it heads toward Canada, becoming post-tropical by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

More Flooding Impacts

Havre de Grace reported it was experiencing localized flooding in many areas and closed Juniata and Revolution streets, with more closures possible.

The city of Aberdeen suspended trash and recycling service Tuesday morning due to conditions in the area and said it would reassess the situation in the coming hours.

The Tydings Bridge is under limited wind restrictions, meaning no house trailers or empty box trailers may cross. The Hatem Bridge is under a wind warning.
