House Of Cards Releases Trailer For Final Season

The Netflix show will shift its release date for the final installment of the series.

Netflix released the trailer for its final season of House of Cards recently and it marks a turn for the series, which had centered around now disgraced actor Kevin Spacey, who played President Frank Underwood. With his departure from the show, the focus is on his wife Claire Underwood, a character mastered by actress Robin Wright, whose ambitions rivaled her husband's.

The trailer for season six of the political thriller opens in a White House hallway and follows staffers walking into the Oval Office, where Wright turns in her chair, stands and says: "We're just getting started."

The words "Hail to the chief" flash, before an announcement that the season will premiere in the fall, a change for the show that typically drops between February and May.

The trailer also reflects a shift in its production; it shows one scene rather than a montage of suspenseful clips from the upcoming season, which previous teasers have incorporated.

Lastly, other House of Cards seasons have had 13 episodes, and the final installment will consist of eight.

The series took a hiatus from filming briefly in fall 2017 after the production company and Netflix severed ties with Spacey, who had starred in the show as the power-hungry president.

House of Cards production was suspended on Oct. 31, 2017, once actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making a sexual advance on him when he was a minor. In a statement, Spacey said he did not remember the encounter but if he did behave as Rapp alleged, he owed him the sincerest apology. More allegations followed.

House of Cards did not resume filming until the end of January.

Production was pushed back several times so that writers could revise the scripts to cut Spacey out, Deadline reported.

The upcoming season of "House of Cards" will include two new cast members, according to Netflix: Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear.

The final season is expected to bring closure to fans and provide work for 2,000 people in the Baltimore area, according to Deadline.

The show has been filming in Harford County, north of Baltimore, since 2012.

"House of Cards" operates a sound stage based out of a warehouse in Joppa and has used local sites to film various scenes including Harford Community College, the Havre de Grace Library, Liriodendron Mansion and a Level Road antique store, among others. It has also used Towson for various scenes.

"House of Cards" is the first original series released by Netflix. Since it aired in 2013, it has won seven Emmys and two Golden Globes.
