The Harford County Sheriff's Office has accepted the lip sync challenge, responding to a call for service from Harford County citizens.

BEL AIR, MD — At the outset of the lip sync video just released by the Harford County Sheriff's Office, a request for service comes in over the radio. A dispatcher informs Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler that the citizens of Harford County have requested the agency take the "lip sync challenge."

Immediately, Gahler radios for backup, and more than two dozen singers and dancers, including three K-9 officers, come to his aid.

Before creating the video, the Harford County Sheriff's Office asked the public for help picking out songs. The call for song requests netted more than 350 comments on the office's Facebook page. Among the suggestions were "Every Breath You Take" by The Police, "Bad Boys" by Inner Circle and many others.

For the last month, law enforcement agencies around the country have been challenging one another to a lip sync battle. The videos have shown a softer side to police.

The battle started in Texas when Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Alexander Mena posted a video of himself singing "Fuiste Mala" by Kumbia Kings, according to ABC. The deputy has sparked what has become a fun exercise not just for officers but for the public as well.

The Bel Air Police Department challenged all Harford County law enforcement officers to take the lip sync challenge this week upon releasing its rendition of the "Boot-Scootin' Boogie" with help from the Explorers.

Before Bel Air police came boot-scootin' onto the scene, the Havre de Grace Police Department shared a video of its captain lip syncing "Ice, Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice while riding around in a golf cart at the Maryland Special Olympics last month. Officers from Bowie, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel were there too.
