Military Memorabilia Draws Bomb Squad to Landfill
Harford County hazmat team investigated situation at refuse drop-off.
STREET, MD – The bomb squad investigated a suspicious military item dropped off at the Harford County Waste Disposal Center Monday morning, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
A citizen was at the landfill in the 3100 block of Scarboro Road throwing various items away, including a crate with military markings.
A bystander noticed the marking and inquired, finding out that the owner was throwing away items that belonged the individual's grandfather, the fire marshal reported.

An employee at the Harford Waste Disposal Center called 911, and bomb squad technicians came in to take a look.

It turns out that the trunk contained cardboard tubes that would hold cartridges for a cannon used in training. There were no rounds in the tubes.

The items were deemed not dangerous, and the fire marshal cleared the scene within an hour of the 11:47 a.m. call. The bomb squad and Harford County hazmat team investigated.
