More Than 2,000 Cigars Smoked in Shed Blaze: Fire Marshal

After fire broke out at shed in Pylesville, the building and its contents were considered total loss, fire marshal reports.

PYLESVILLE, MD – A shed fire that produced small explosions in Pylesville Wednesday night caused $50,000 in damage, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

At approximately 5:55 p.m., the homeowner in the 4000 block of Heaps School Road awoke to the sound of mini explosions and upon investigation, found that his shed was ablaze, the fire marshal reported.

The fire engulfed the shed and spread to nearby vegetation including trees, grass and woodpiles, according to the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, which responded to the incident along with crews from Norrisville, Bel Air, Darlington, Jarrettsville, Fawn Grove and Delta Cardiff.

About 50 firefighters brought the situation under control within 20 minutes, according to the fire marshal.

The shed and its contents—including a cigar humidor with more than 2,000 cigars—were considered a total loss, the fire marshal reported.

Authorities reported there was $25,000 in structural damage, while $25,000 worth of items were lost as well.

Nobody was injured, according to the fire marshal.

While it was determined the blaze began inside the 24-by-32-foot shed, the fire marshal said the cause remained under investigation.
