Murder-Suicide In Edgewood Under Investigation

Authorities say a couple in Edgewood was found shot to death Wednesday morning, and an investigation is underway.

EDGEWOOD, MD — A husband and wife are dead in what authorities suspect is a murder-suicide in Edgewood.

Jose Ermelindo Corea Mejia, 48, and Denia Yamileth Corea, 43, died of what appeared to be gunshot wounds, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Investigators believe the husband shot his wife before taking his own life.

Deputies found the couple upon responding to a call about a person who had been shot in the 1600 block of Nuttal Avenue at 10:29 a.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they were told at least two people were in the home, and one had been shot, according to the sheriff's office. In an attempt to save lives, officials said deputies went into the home at 10:55 a.m.

Once inside, authorities said they discovered a woman who was uninjured and moved her outside as well as the man and woman upstairs who were deceased.

During the response, parts of Route 24 and Trimble Road were closed in the area.

The bodies have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the time and exact cause and manner of the couple's deaths. A motive for the shootings is unknown, and the deaths remain under investigation by the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said they believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community at large.

This is the third murder-suicide since the beginning of October in Harford County.

Investigators believe a Jarrettsville man killed his wife and then shot himself in their home. The 75-year-old man and 76-year-old woman were found dead there by a relative on Halloween, officials said.

A 38-year-old Bel Air man shot his 3-year-old son and himself Oct. 15 in Bel Air, according to authorities, who also ruled that a case of murder-suicide.
