New Restaurant Opening In Bel Air This Week

BEL AIR, MD — A new restaurant is opening in Bel Air. Miller's Ale House is set to open to the public on Wednesday, located where Famous Dave's used to be on Baltimore Pike at the intersection of US 1 and MD 24.

After a soft opening for friends and family Monday and Tuesday by invitation only, Miller's Ale House will welcome its first Bel Air customers on Wednesday, June 27.

Miller's Ale House is a casual restaurant and bar known for food like hand-breaded chicken tenders, burgers, soups, sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, pasta, steak and other dishes. There is also a kids menu. About 75 local craft, seasonal and domestic beers will be available, as well as cocktails and wines.

This is the second restaurant for the company in Maryland; Miller's Ale House in Rockville opened about five years ago. It has more than 80 locations in 12 states; its first opened in Jupiter, Florida, in 1988.

"This location was chosen...quite frankly because of the dynamics of this area," said Linda Carter, the attorney representing Miller's Ale House before the Harford County Liquor Control Board on June 20. She went on to explain why the company decided to plant roots in Bel Air.

"Miller's looks for places that are experiencing good growth with a lack, if you will, in the community of enough casual dining restaurants to accommodate everybody," Carter said. "We be believe that with the population growing here that this will be a prime location for us and for the community."

The restaurant will be able to seat nearly 300 people. There will be a total of 242 seats in the restaurant and an adjacent area with 36 more seats, according to Carter, who outlined the seating as follows:

• 202 seats in dining room
• 40 seats in Florida room
• Nine four-top tables outside, with access only from inside

There will be 65 televisions and no other entertainment inside the restaurant, according to Carter.

The new eatery will open at the busy intersection of US 1 and MD 24, which previously was Famous Dave's until the barbecue joint closed in August 2017.

Upon opening, Carter said the company will have invested $3 million in the restaurant and anticipates about $4 million in annual sales, with sales tax revenue of $275,000 and $25,000 in personal and real property taxes.

It will have a staff of approximately 100 employees, including 40 servers, 12 bartenders and six managers.

Miller's Ale House will be located at 601 Baltimore Pike, Bel Air, MD 21014. Hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on opening day. Last call will be at 1:30 a.m.
