Reward Offered For Handgun Info In Edgewood Homicide

Detectives need help locating a weapon that may have been used in a recent homicide in Edgewood.

EDGEWOOD, MD — Investigators are looking for a 9 mm handgun that may have been used in a recent homicide in Harford County. There is a $500 reward for information.

Thailek Jacob Willis, 19, of Edgewood, was shot outside Edgewood High School on Friday, Aug. 3. He was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to investigators, Willis had driven to the Edgewood High School parking lot in the 2400 block of Willoughby Beach Road for a drug deal when he was shot. Investigators said when Willis drove into the parking lot at Edgewood High School before 9:20 p.m., two teens armed with handguns approached him and announced a robbery. As he tried to drive away, authorities allege both teens fired, and one round hit and killed Willis.

While investigators said both suspects were armed with guns at the time of the shooting, only one of the guns has been located as of Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Detectives say they are looking for a 9 mm handgun that one of the suspects may have disposed of after the crime.

Yasin Wallace Powell, 16, and Jaylin Jerome Brown, 15, both of Edgewood, have been charged as adults with first and second-degree murder, armed robbery, first-degree assault, using a firearm in a felony crime, possession of a firearm as a minor and reckless endangerment.

Powell and Brown were arrested on Monday, Aug. 6, and are being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center. They were indicted on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
