Sprouts Coming To Bel Air: Report

The market focused on natural and organic foods is reportedly opening in Tollgate Marketplace.

BEL AIR, MD — The space formerly occupied by hhgregg will reportedly be turning into Sprouts. The storefront in the Tollgate Marketplace has begun transforming this week, according to The Aegis, which reports Sprouts Farmers Market is conducting a $2.5 million remodel after obtaining a permit from the town of Bel Air.

hhgregg vacated its storefront on Marketplace Drive in April 2017 as the electronics retailer closed its stores nationwide.

Nearby, the Toys R Us store is also vacant. That business closed in summer 2018 as the company shuttered all its locations.

While the future of the Toys R Us store is less clear, a "specialty grocer" is coming soon to the 33,000 square feet left vacant by hhgregg, according to the Tollgate Marketplace leasing brochure.

Sprouts, headquartered in Arizona, has nearly 300 locations across the country. The company was founded on the principles of living clean and eating healthy. It touts that 90 percent of the 19,000 healthy products in Sprouts are natural or organic. The company says that in each store, a large selection of produce greets customers, giving it the ambiance of a farmers market.

In Maryland, Sprouts Farmers Market has stores in Towson and Ellicott City. Both of them opened in 2018.

A company spokesperson for Sprouts told The Aegis that the store is not slated to open before July; the company is only releasing information about stores opening in the first half of the year, a list that the newspaper said does not include any stores in Maryland.
