Sprouts Farmers Market Holds Grand Opening In Bel Air
The new grocery store in Tollgate Marketplace — Sprouts — is celebrating its opening with deals and tastings.
BEL AIR, MD — Before its grand opening July 10, Sprouts Farmers Market in Bel Air has provided details about the festivities. Freebies and discounts are among the offerings.
Doors will open at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the new grocery store in Tollgate Marketplace that focuses on healthy, natural foods.
Before the store officially opens for business in Bel Air, the first 200 shoppers in line will be treated to 20 percent off. Everyone in line before the doors open will receive complimentary muffin and coffee samples.

All customers on grand opening day — Wednesday, July 10 — will take home a free reusable bag with purchase, according to Sprouts.

The business is hosting a "Taste of Sprouts" event on Saturday, July 13, when shoppers will be able to try a selection of new natural and organic products. Sprouts products as well as guest favorites and trending items will be available for sampling throughout the store, officials said.
Sprouts was founded on the principles of living clean and eating healthy and says 90 percent of the 19,000 products in Sprouts are natural or organic.
What To Expect
The 33,000-square-foot grocery store is opening where hh gregg used to be in Tollgate Marketplace, next to the old Toys R Us.
Produce is at the center of the Sprouts store and greets customers as they walk in.
Shoppers will find an array of healthy foods, including some locally made products. Among the local offerings will be those from Lord Byron’s Honey of Thurmont, Michele’s Granola of Timonium, Toto’s Authentic of Randallstown, Trickling Springs Creamery of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Wild Kombucha of Baltimore, according to Sprouts.
Here are some of the elements that Sprouts highlighted about its new store:
- Fresh produce will be located at the center of Sprouts.
- There will also be a Butcher Shop where in-house butchers can assist people with custom cuts. Handcrafted sausages and other meats will be available.
- The Fish Market will feature an eye-catching display cases and seafood seasonings.
- The Market Corner Deli includes a detached island for customer service as well as made-to-order sandwiches, a salad bar, sushi made in the store, fresh juice and prepared foods.
- The Bulk Department will include nuts, grains and trail mixes sold by the pound; loose teas and coffee beans; freshly-ground nut butters and local honey, according to Sprouts.
Commitment To Sustainability
As a business dedicated to healthy living, Sprouts reports it has a commitment to "zero waste," the concept of minimizing trash by diverting it into use. Through its evolving zero waste initiatives, the company says it aims to lessen its environmental footprint and help to reduce hunger.
Unsold, edible groceries from Sprouts in Bel Air will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank through the company's food rescue program.
Food that is not suitable for donation to the food bank will be given away to local cattle farms and composting facilities, the company reported.
According to Sprouts, its stores and distribution centers donated 27 million pounds, or the equivalent of 23 million meals, in 2018.
So far, the Arizona-based company has more than 300 locations across the country. The Bel Air store will be the third Sprouts in Maryland; others are in Towson and Ellicott City.
Sprouts will cut the ribbon on its new store in Bel Air at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at 680 Marketplace Drive.
