Sprouts Sets Opening Date In Bel Air: Report

BEL AIR, MD — The new grocery store coming to Tollgate Marketplace has reportedly set a date for its grand opening. Sprouts Farmers Market will open in Bel Air on July 10, the Baltimore Business Journal reported.

Sprouts confirmed it was opening in the former hhgregg space near Toys R Us in January but did not disclose when it would welcome its first customers. The storefront on Marketplace Drive has been vacant since April 2017 as the electronics retailer shuttered nationwide.

When it opens, the Bel Air location will be the third Sprouts Farmers Market in Maryland.

Stores in Towson and Ellicott City opened in 2018.

A spokesperson for the Arizona-based company told the Baltimore Business Journal that it has seen an "increased demand" around the region since Sprouts opened its first store in Ellicott City.

The Bel Air Sprouts will generate approximately 140 new jobs.

Sprouts has more than 300 locations across the country. Founded on the principles of living clean and eating healthy, it touts 90 percent of the 19,000 healthy products in its stores are natural or organic.

In each store, customers are met with a bevy of produce, giving it the ambiance of a farmers market. In addition to produce, the grocery store offers a butcher, fish market, prepared foods section, vitamins, supplements and other items.

The Bel Air store is one of 30 that the company has set its sights on opening in 2019.

The company announced Thursday that it plans to open 13 stores across the U.S. in the second half of 2019, and the Bel Air location at 680 Marketplace Drive was among them.

These Sprouts stores are slated to open between July and December 2019:

• Herndon, Virginia – 494 Elden Street
• Jacksonville, Florida – 4873 Town Center Parkway
• Jupiter, Florida – 3757 Military Trail
• Lake Forest, California – 24332 Rockfield Boulevard
• Laveen, Arizona – 59th Avenue and Baseline Road
• New Port Ritchey, Florida – 8840 Strength Avenue
• Riverview, Florida – Summerfield Crossing and Highway 301
• Vista, California – 1400 East Vista Way
• West Covina, California – Citrus Street and Workman Avenue
• West Hollywood, California – 8550 Santa Monica Boulevard

Sprouts joins other grocers that are opening up shop in Harford County.

In January, Lidl opened in Aberdeen, marking its second store in Maryland.

Aldi opened in Bel Air in January 2017 in the former Mars space, which had been vacant since 2015. It was the third Aldi for the company in Harford County.
