Four Edgewood Schools Locked Down on Tuesday

Harford County Sheriff's Office explains why.

Four schools in Edgewood were on alert for “a very brief” period on Tuesday, according to Harford County Public Schools.

“We received a report of shots fired behind the Edgewood Plaza,” the school system said in a statement.

As a result, Edgewood High, Edgewood Middle, Deerfield Elementary and Edgewood Elementary schools were put on lockdown temporarily.

The school system stated that a lockdown occurs anytime there is a report that merits taking extra safety precautions. During a lockdown, students and staff are locked inside the building until it is deemed safe by the sheriff’s office, according to the statement.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said that its deputies responded to three separate calls in the area on Tuesday that contributed to the concern.
