Woman, 3 Dogs Rescued From Joppa House Fire: Fire Marshal

Neighbors rescued a woman — from the house where she was recently evicted — after fire broke out, officials said.

JOPPA, MD — A woman and three dogs were rescued from a burning house in Joppa Thursday night, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The woman had reportedly been evicted from the home several days before the blaze.

She was trespassing at 5:37 p.m. Thursday at the home in the 200 block of Kearney Drive "to retrieve some last belongings and according to her, discovered a fire in the sun-porch and retreated to the rear bedroom," the fire marshal said in a statement Friday.

Neighbors noticed the fire and one threw a ceramic pot through the back window to get the woman to safety, officials said. She sustained minor cuts.

A neighbor pulled three dogs from the burning home as well, by crawling through a window, the fire marshal reported.

There was $30,000 in structural damage as a result of the blaze, according to the fire marshal.
