$10K Reward Offered to Find Bethesda Carjackers

The carjackers fled in a stolen Volvo SUV through Silver Spring and into Washington, D.C., police say.

Three armed men who reportedly carjacked an 18-year-old woman at gunpoint in Bethesda were able to flee into Washington, D.C., Wednesday night and escape arrest.

Montgomery County Police say the carjacking happened about 6:55 p.m. in the 7800 block of Hampden Lane in Bethesda.

The 18-year-old victim parked her Volvo in the 7800 block of Hampden Lane in Bethesda and began to use her phone. The SUV was running and the doors were unlocked when a black man opened the driver’s side door. Police say the suspect held a handgun to the victim’s head and demanded that she get out of the vehicle.

A second black male suspect opened the front passenger side door and stole a bag from the front seat. A third suspect, a man of unknown race, was also present during the carjacking.

An officer saw the stolen Volvo at 7:03 p.m. near 16th Street and East-West Highway in Silver Spring. When police tried to stop the vehicle it fled and officers lost sight of the Volvo in the area of 14th Street and Primrose Road NW in D.C.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the carjacking to call 240-773-5070. To remain anonymous call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

Crime Solvers will pay a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest and/or indictment in this case.

Anyone who sees the stolen vehicle, a 2011, dark red Volvo XC60 with MD tag 1AE3792, is asked to call 911.
