Alcohol Use a Factor in Pedestrian Accident: Police

A pedestrian who may have been drinking suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by an SUV in Wheaton, police say.

WHEATON, MD — Alcohol use by a pedestrian may be to blame after the man was hit by an SUV on Georgia Avenue in Wheaton, according to Montgomery County Police. The serious accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Georgia Avenue and Dawson Avenue.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved in the accident, pending family notifications.

Investigators say a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a man was southbound on Georgia Avenue when the pedestrian, who was not in a marked crosswalk, was crossing Georgia Avenue and was struck by the SUV.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries; his alcohol use is being investigated as a factor in the crash. Police say the Suburban's driver was not injured.
