• How a New County Rule Could Fast Track This 26-Story Bethesda Tower (urbanturf.com) — A 26‑story, 450‑unit apartment tower is moving through an expedited approval process for 7201 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda, potentially shaving months off review. The project uses affordable housing incentives to reach its full height and has already cleared local design and public art panels, with its first Development Review Committee hearing expected later this month.
• Maryland to begin removing temporary bus lanes from Wisconsin Avenue (fox5dc.com) — Starting Labor Day, Maryland will remove the temporary bus lanes along Wisconsin Avenue between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights, restoring on‑street parking and regular traffic patterns. The lanes supported shuttle service during major Red Line work, including construction of a new Bethesda station mezzanine, and residents in Bethesda are split on whether the dedicated bus space should have stayed.
• Herbert Louis Tanenbaum (washingtonjewishweek.com) — Bethesda readers are mourning Dr. Herbert Louis Tanenbaum, a prominent cardiologist and longtime Beth El Synagogue member who raised his family in his Bethesda home of 67 years. He was a nationally recognized researcher, military veteran, and medical leader, remembered by his large family, who suggest memorial contributions to Beth El's Elaine Tanenbaum Religious School Enrichment Fund.
